How to play Place the Sound

Listen to a sound, place your guess on the map, and discover how close you got.

1

Listen

A new round starts with a real-world recording. Use headphones if you can, and listen for language, wildlife, weather, transport, and the shape of the space.

2

Place

Move around the globe and drop a pin in the country you think fits the sound. You can adjust it until you submit or the timer ends.

3

Reveal

The correct location appears together with your score. In a live room, everyone sees the reveal and leaderboard before the next round.

Choose your mode

Play a synchronized match with friends or take on the same solo challenge as everyone else.

Private rooms

Create a room, choose the number of rounds and round length, then invite up to twenty players with an eight-character code or shareable link. Everyone listens and guesses in real time.

Daily World Stage

Sign in for one attempt at the same ten sounds everyone receives that day. Complete the run and your total joins the daily leaderboard.

Scoring, speed, and hints

Place the Sound scores countries rather than raw distance. That keeps borders understandable and every reveal easy to read.

A correct country earns 20 points. Submit that correct answer in under five seconds for a 10-point quick-guess bonus. A neighboring country earns a 5-point close-guess bonus.

Up to three hints can narrow the possibilities. Each hint subtracts 5 points from that round, so use them when the information is worth the trade.
